OEM Hyundai Brakes
How do brakes work? Simple. Step on a brake pedal and a vehicle slows down. Step on it long enough, and the vehicle eventually stops. What do brakes do to produce that result, though? That's more complicated.
In your Hyundai, the process starts with a master brake cylinder. It moves brake fluid across a system of hoses and lines. As the fluid reaches each brake caliper, it clamps a brake pad onto a brake rotor. Older Hyundai models may press a brake shoe and brake drum together instead. This creates friction, and the friction is what does the slowing and stopping. Newer Hyundai models may also get help from a control module or wheel speed sensors.
Regardless of what factors in, all brakes go bad sooner or later, unfortunately, whether from age or degraded parts.
So, how do you tell when to change brakes? Look for the signs. A brake warning light might seem obvious. However, other symptoms, like abnormal brake shuddering, weird braking noise, and an overly soft or low brake pedal, are better indicators. Unfortunately, there are worse signs yet. They include loss of brake grip, longer stop times, and even pulling sideways unintentionally during braking. The worst symptom of brake problems, however, is grinding. It often indicates your brakes have gone bad, that degraded brake pads have led to rotor damage.
If you think you need new brakes, run a thorough inspection first to be sure. When it's time to order parts, be sure to get genuine OEM; they'll be guaranteed to fit your model. You can take care of it online at our auto parts store.
