In 2007, rumors swirled about Hyundai sports coupe unlike anything brand enthusiasts had seen before. Shortly before the Los Angeles International Auto show in 2007, a few photos would even surface. But it wasn't until an unveiling at the 2008 New York International Auto Show, showcasing power-slides and burnouts that wowed, that the rear-wheel drive sports car, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, would rev onto the scene a Hyundai first. Sharing a platform with the Hyundai Genesis luxury sedan, the car's 2010 model went on sale in 2009, and a star was born.

It would have trims galore over the years, too. They'd range from 2.0T Base and 2.0T Premium to 3.8 Grand Touring and 3.8 Track. There'd be, for instance, 2.0T Track and 3.8 Base models, available in 2010 only, not to mention a 3.8 R-Spec model available from 2011 on. Cool variants wouldn't be in short supply either: an RMR Art of Speed concept would be unveiled at the 2008 SEMA Show, followed by 2.0T R-Spec and RM460 models, built by Rhys Millen Racing, at SEMA 2009. Another one, RM500, would even be built by the same dream-car designer for SEMA 2011. The car would also compete at events like the Formula Drift Professional Drifting Championship, the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, and the Redline Time Attack Series before being discontinued in 2016, leaving behind a legacy.
