In 2007, Hyundai put a concept car on display, called HND-3, that would become a compact car today both iconic and highly recognizable: the Hyundai Veloster. The coupe was eventually unveiled at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show as a worthy replacement for the celebrated Hyundai Tiburon, which ran from 1996 to 2008. A rally-inspired version would be built the same year for SEMA 2011, followed by a high-performance Turbo version in 2012, revealed at that year's North American International Auto Show.

The first generation would run from 2012 to 2018, and not without variations galore over the years, for sale and otherwise. Trims like Turbo R-Spec and N would join concepts like Velocity, C3 Roll Top, and Zombie Survival Machine, with special editions alongside, ranging from Re:Mix Music and Re:Mix Gaming to RE:FLEX, JP, and ARK Performance Alpine editions. There were even other rally iterations, like RMR Global Rallycross and Rally Edition. The second generation has been around since 2019, and one thing's for sure: it's a sports car beloved of Hyundai drivers everywhere.
