There are many types of transmissions for sale these days, but two common kinds still persist: manual and automatic. If you prefer to "drive stick" for the practical experience and hands-on feel, you probably prefer a manual. If you prefer to shift without a clutch, however, you probably prefer an auto. Your Hyundai can have either, but they work differently.
A manual transmission lets you select gear ratios. How it works is you press a clutch, an input shaft separates, you shift into gear, a linkage connects a locking collar to an output shaft, you release the clutch, the input shaft re-engages, the output shaft turns, and you continue driving. This lets you shift without your engine going above its rpm range (redline).
An auto transmission, on the other hand, works more simply. There's no clutch, and it adds a fluid coupling converter to the gearset. This "torque converter" connects your engine and transmission and changes gears using fluid pressure.
Sooner or later, though, transmissions can and do go out. Luckily, there are signs to look for.
Does your clutch feel slippery or otherwise abnormal? Does your engine rev high? Maybe you smell burning following clutch release or hear grinding or other noises when shifting. If you see these symptoms, if changing gears feels delayed, or if you can't find the right gear at all, you probably have a bad manual transmission. If you hear humming, whining, or clunking, gears start slipping, or fluid leaks, your automatic transmission is likely failing.
In either case, service your transmission immediately. Our auto parts counter has the genuine parts you need.
Why Buy Genuine OEM?
Hyundai makes them specifically for your car or SUV. That means they've got compatibility covered -- something that the aftermarket can't always claim.
